Front of BuildingThank you to our amazing school community for your ongoing support. As we reflect on the year’s achievements and look ahead, we remain grateful for every member of our school community and the contributions you make. Together, we continue to build a school where everyone feels valued and inspired. We are grateful for each one of our students and their contributions to making LCVI a special place to learn and grow. Whether excelling in academics, sports, the arts, or community service, our students consistently show a willingness to support one another and contribute to a positive school environment. We are proud to have such an outstanding group of young people representing our school each and every day.

Matilda the Musical

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who came out to watch the show and support our talented students. Your presence made the evening performances truly special, and we are so grateful for the enthusiasm and encouragement from our school community. The production was nothing short of incredible—our students dazzled us with their passion, talent, and hard work. Shout out to our super staff production team for their leadership - Ms. Healey (Director), Mr. McCann (Music Director), Mr. Newell (Technical Director), Ms. Macrae, Ms. McLaren, and Mr. Veitch (Co-Producers), Ms. Leake (Vocal Director), Ms. White (Vocal Coach), and many other staff who supported the musical.

LCVI Cares

We Care imageWith the winter break approaching, we are mindful that some members of our school community could benefit from extra support at this time of year. We are collecting gift cards (e.g., grocery, restaurant take-out, activity related) to support our students and families. We are so appreciative of the kindness and generosity of our school community. Gift cards may be dropped off to the LCVI main office by Friday, December 12. If your family could benefit from this kind of support for the upcoming holiday season, please contact the office or administration.

Traffic Reminders for Drop-Off & Pick-Up

The front of our school is very busy in the morning, lunch, and at dismissal. Please take care when entering and exiting the front laneway. A reminder that the front lane way is for quick drop-off and pick-up. Cars are not permitted to be parked or idling in this area. At the end of the school day, if your student is not ready to be picked-up, you must move along to maintain traffic flow.

Consider picking up your student 5-10 minutes after dismissal to help reduce congestion. Or consider dropping off/picking up your student at pre-arranged meeting spot in the surrounding neighbourhood. Thank you for your help keeping everyone safe.

LCVI Remembers

AssemblyToday (December 5) we observed National Day of Remembrance and Action for Violence Against Women. On December 6, 1989, 13 female students and a female administrator at l'École Polytechnique de Montréal were murdered because they were women. 36 years later, the effects of this tragedy continue to be felt, and women, girls and 2SLGBTQI+ individuals around the world continue to face unacceptable violence and discrimination because of their gender. Thank you to Ms. Kemp and our student leaders - London, Azalea, Sarah, Daphne, Natsuki, Malika, Bella, Holly, Sabrina, and Jasper - for leading us through this meaningful time of remembrance.

On Tuesday, November 11, Remembrance Day, LCVI students and staff gathered together for a special time of reflection and remembrance to honour those who served and gave their lives for our country, our freedom, and our safety. Thank you to Ms. Healey and our student leaders - Cade, Kian, Henry, Ethan, Olivia, Sophie, Muntaqa, Ian, Max, and Tamunobomate - for highlighting the significance of this day.

Career Fair

We are excited to announce that LCVI will host a special Career Fair in April 2026, offering our students a unique opportunity to explore a diverse range of career paths and gain valuable insight into the skills and education needed to thrive in today’s workforce. This event is designed to connect students with professionals from every sector—secretarial, managerial, skilled trades, labourers, business professionals, executives, owners, and more. We warmly invite members of our local community to participate and share their experiences, helping students envision their future possibilities.

If you are interested in joining us as a presenter or exhibitor, please reach out to Ms. Dupuis, Head of Student Services, at dupuiscorinna@limestone.on.ca for more information. Your involvement will make a meaningful difference in our students’ learning and career exploration. Stay tuned for further details as we prepare for this exciting event.

playlogoWe are thankful to Play! Gaming & Entertainment for their generosity and support over the years! Funds raised help us to significantly reduce fees in support of student extra-curriculars at LCVI.

Scents at School Reminder

LCVI/Calvin Park is a scent free school. We have students and staff who experience severe physical reactions when exposed to colognes, perfumes, body sprays, etc. Please do not wear scents at LCVI/Calvin Park! Do not apply them before you come to school, and do not apply them while at school. Thank you for your help with this.

Inclement Weather

Our first "snow day" of the year came early this year, a reminder that winter weather is here. Please note that you can sign-up to receive notifications of cancellations to your student's specific bus route at https://triboard.ca/. If your students is going to stay home on an inclement weather day, please remember to report their absence through School Messenger to help us track attendance and ensure student safety.

Attendance

Regular attendance is essential for success. We expect students to attend class daily and be on time. When valuable instructional time is missed, the natural consequence is a decreased opportunity for success. We know that students who are present at school 90% of the time or more earn higher grades and are more likely to earn all of their credits.

Families can prioritize attendance by:

  • Discussing its importance and positivity
  • Scheduling appointments outside of school hours (if possible)
  • Returning students to school after appointments
  • Keeping students home only when ill
  • Planning family vacations during school breaks (i.e., December and March Breaks)

Our automated attendance system makes daily calls home to notify caregivers of students who are marked absent without permission.

Students who need to leave early for an appointment must sign-out at the Attendance Office. Students who arrive late to school must sign-in at the Attendance Office before going to class. To notify the school of a “parent/guardian approved” absence, parents/guardians should report the absence through School Messenger or call the attendance office @ 613-546-2050, ext. 341. Please note: Students are not permitted to sign themselves out or call-in absences until they reach the age of 18.

New 5, 10, 15 absence procedure:

  • Email home from teacher at 5, 10, and 15 absences in a class. After midterm, teachers will move to 10 and 15 absences only.
  • Administration will follow-up with student/caregiver. Follow-up may include supports and/or progressive discipline procedures.

New Lancer Level-Up Days:

  • Students are expected to communicate with their teacher if they anticipate being absent on a summative assessment day. (It may be possible to complete the summative early.)
  • Students who are absent for a summative assessment/test will have the opportunity to complete the missed summative on the next "Lancer Level Up Day.

Attendance Matters

Graduation Photos

Attention Graduates! It's time to begin booking your Graduation Photos. Go to https://edgeimaging.ca/en/book-your-grad-session/and enter the school code LKX.

There are two options:

Option 1 costs $35 and includes a composite photo with all of our graduates. This option includes 10 poses, including props, set against both contemporary and traditional backgrounds. Please note that this sitting fee does not cover the cost of a printed photo. If you do not know what a composite photo is, there is one in the main office beside the staff mailboxes.

Option 2 costs $0 but does not include the composite. Your photo will be included in the composite photo, and you will still have an option to order additional grad photos. This option consists of 1 pose.

You should consider booking a graduation photo, even if you do not plan to order any. This will ensure you are included in the composite photo, the yearbook, and that we have a graduation photo to display on the day of the ceremony.

Stress Lessons

Thank you to Kristie Timmins (Adolescent Care Worker) for running "Stress Lessons" with our grade 10 Careers Classes. This is a program through the Psychology Foundation of Canada that provides teens and educators with an opportunity to promote well-being, dialogue and learning, that is directly tied to the curriculum. Teens learn how both good and bad stress impacts their body physically, emotionally and cognitively. The activities encourage students to problem solve and develop a toolbox of strategies that can help them be resilient when faced with life's stressors." - paraphrased from the "Forward" in the Stress Lessons manual.

Overview of the lessons:
Lesson # 1 Science of stress - What it is, hormones that activate when we are stressed, signs of stress, fight/flight/freeze response
Lesson # 2 Upside/Downside of Stress - How stress can be good for us, how to recognize chronic stress
Lesson # 3 Coping Skills - Practical strategies to help manage stress
Lesson # 4 How to have a forward moving mindset - Positive thinking, How to ask for help if needed, what do we need from our supports and how do we support others
Lesson # 5 Resiliency - What is it and how to build this
Lesson # 6 Recap and Celebrate completing the program!
