LCVI Lancer Communication
March 1, 2026
Second semester is off to a strong start. We are already 4 weeks in and many classes are or will be soon approaching the first summative assessment. This semester we will continue our school-wide focus on improving attendance and communicating with families at the 5-10-15 class absence check points.
Attendance
Regular attendance is essential for success. We expect students to attend class daily and be on time. When valuable instructional time is missed, the natural consequence is a decreased opportunity for success. We know that students who are present at school 90% of the time or more earn higher grades and are much more likely to earn all of their credits.
Families can prioritize attendance by:
- Discussing its importance and positivity
- Scheduling appointments outside of school hours (if possible)
- Returning students to school after appointments
- Keeping students home only when ill
- Planning family vacations during school breaks (i.e., December and March Breaks)
Our automated attendance system makes daily calls home to notify caregivers of students who are marked absent without permission. Students who need to leave early for an appointment must sign-out at the Attendance Office. Students who arrive late to school must sign-in at the Attendance Office before going to class. To notify the school of a “parent/guardian approved” absence, parents/guardians should report the absence through School Messenger or call the attendance office @ 613-546-2050, ext. 341. Please note: Students are not permitted to sign themselves out or call-in absences until they reach the age of 18.
5, 10, 15 absence procedure:
- Email home from teacher at 5, 10, and 15 absences in a class.
- We recognize that parents/guardians may have approved the absences. The goal of this communication is to ensure everyone is aware of how many classes have been missed, regardless of the reason.
- Administration will follow-up with student/caregiver. Follow-up may include progressive discipline procedures and/or supports.
Lancer Level-Up Days:
- Students are expected to communicate with their teacher if they anticipate being absent on a summative assessment day. (It may be possible to complete the summative early.)
- Students who are absent for a summative assessment/test will have the opportunity to complete the missed summative on the next "Lancer Level Up Day."

Lancers in Action
Our Senior Boys Basketball team battled hard in an exciting quarter‑final game, showing heart, skill, and determination from start to finish. The gym was electric, with an incredible crowd bringing energy and support on every possession.
Although we came up just short in a tough loss to Sydenham High School, our players represented our school with pride, playing with intensity and teamwork until the final buzzer. The effort on the court and the spirit in the stands made this a game to remember.
Congratulations to our athletes and thank you to the fans who made the atmosphere unforgettable.
DECA
Congratulations to all DECA members who competed in Toronto this month. Twenty three LCVI students qualified for Provincials and competed against thousands of students from across the province. We were proud of your hard work. Seven students were awarded medals: Jill Hunt and Elise Cook, Muntaqa Ahmed and Kian Azimi, Sid Kumar, Jesse Baillie and Cade Sleeth - with Jesse and Cade being invited to move to the next level of competition, the DECA International Conference in Georgia! Good luck to Jesse and Cade who will be competing, once again, at this prestigious competition in late April.
DECA hits the ground running in September and everything leads to the Provincial Competition in Toronto. LCVI's DECA has a fabulous group of student leaders who worked hard to make sure everyone knew where to be and what to do! Cade Sleeth, Jesse Baillie, Sid Kumar, Kahvian Omrani, Oeifa Cowan, and Nika Levin -- Thank you for your leadership!
Big thanks to DECA staff supervisors, Mr. Aghamirian and Ms. Wyncoll, for your dedication and support of our students to make these experiences possible. Shout outs to Jeni and Marie for dealing with School Day and budget, to Ms. Connelly for the calm and consistent support, and to the parents for all their support throughout the DECA season. We can be proud of LCVI's accomplishments in DECA for the 2025-2026 school year.

Host an International Student – Be a Part of Kingston’s Global Community
Limestone is proud of our long tradition of hosting students from other countries. The demand for Kingston, and Canada, as a learning destination is rapidly growing. Students from over 15 different countries are here now staying with great homestay families in Limestone. Our International Education team is looking for more families to become homestay hosts to international students.
We currently have 19 students on our waiting list that have applied to Limestone for 2026-2027 and need a home. They range from one semester to one-year stays and are from Germany, Spain, Japan, Brazil, Slovakia, Czechia, Italy, and Denmark.
Host families will be paid a tax-free monthly stipend to host students. All students in the program attend local intermediate or secondary schools and range in age from 12 to 17 years of age. Our International Education team works hard to make a great match for your family, that can last a lifetime.
Families can learn more by visiting internationaled.limestone.on.ca or phoning the International Education offices at 613-544-7745 ext. 288.

Did you know that our students can access mental health support at school and we can help with getting students connected with community partners? Traffic Reminders for Drop-Off/Pick-Up
The front of our school is very busy in the morning and at dismissal. Please take care when entering and exiting the front laneway. A reminder that the front lane way is for quick drop-off and pick-up. Cars are not permitted to be parked or idling in this area. At the end of the school day, if your student is not ready to be picked-up, you must move along to maintain traffic flow.
Consider picking up your student 5-10 minutes after dismissal to help reduce congestion. Or consider dropping off/picking up your student at pre-arranged meeting spot in the surrounding neighbourhood. Thank you for your help keeping everyone safe.
Help Wanted! Bingo Volunteers Needed
We are in need of a few more volunteers to run bingos. Please contact Paul Goldring (goldringp@limestone.on.ca) if you are interested in helping out or learning more.
We are thankful to Play! Gaming & Entertainment for their generosity and support over the years! Funds raised help us to significantly reduce fees in support of student extra-curriculars at LCVI.
Scents at School Reminder
LCVI/Calvin Park is a scent free school. We have students and staff who experience severe physical reactions when exposed to colognes, perfumes, body sprays, etc. Please do not wear scents at LCVI/Calvin Park! Do not apply them before you come to school, and do not apply them while at school. Thank you for your help with this.
Daily Announcements
Students hear information about extra-curriculars and events on the daily announcements, also posted on the bulletin board outside the main office, on the school website (https://lcvi.limestone.on.ca/daily-schedule-announcements), and on LCVI Instagram.
