· Bell Let’s Talk Day is January 21! Today’s action is treat mental health issues like any other health issue. We all have mental health, just like we have physical health. Treating mental health issues just like you would treat someone with a broken arm helps to reduce the stigma so that more people feel comfortable asking for help. It is important to know that people with mental health issues can, and do recover.
If you think a friend might be having a mental health issue, please reach out to an adult at the school that you trust. They are here to listen and help connect you to someone who may be able to help. Kristie Timmins is LCVI's Adolescent Care Worker and Tiff Idems is our Social Worker - they are great adults to get connected to!

· Tomorrow is Bell Let’s Talk Day! Always educate yourself: Learn about and talk more about the signs of mental illness. We all feel sad, worried, scared, irritated or suspicious at times. But these kinds of feelings may become a problem if they get in the way of our daily lives over a long period. These kinds of problems can affect anyone, regardless of their age, educational background, income level, gender or culture. Mental health problems can affect our feelings, thoughts, physical well-being and actions. The internet is an amazing tool to gather more information but avoid using it to self-diagnose. Start a discussion with someone you trust, reach out to someone at the school (come to Student Services and ask to talk to Kristie or Tiff!) or talk to your doctor if you suspect you may be struggling with your own mental health.

· Today is the day! Today Bell will donate a minimum of $10,000,000 towards mental health initiatives in Canada. Helping to end the stigma around mental illness can help people seek the help they need and create positive change. One of the biggest hurdles for anyone suffering from mental illness is overcoming the stigma of having a problem and asking for help. It is the number one reason why two-thirds of those living with a mental illness do not seek help. Remember that if you need someone to talk to our Adolescent Care Worker is Kristie Timmins and our Social Worker is Tiff Idems. Not sure where to find them? Go to Student Services or the main office and someone will help you. Your teachers, staff and principals are also here to listen and can help you get connected if needed!
