LCVI Lancer Communication
January 16, 2026
Happy New Year to our students and families! It's been an interesting first two weeks back with four days of inclement weather/bus cancellations. We are in the home stretch of semester one, with just 3 days left of classes before exams! Exams begin on Thursday, January 22. This is a busy time for our students as they work hard to finish strong in their courses. Lancers, we wish you all the best on your final summative assignments and exams!
Staff Updates
Congratulations to Mr. Kevin Bowers on his upcoming retirement at the end of this semester. With an exceptional 30‑year teaching career, including more than a decade at LCVI, Mr. Bowers has made a meaningful difference across five secondary schools within LDSB, leaving a positive and lasting impact everywhere he taught.
From English and computer technology, to film and music, and through his leadership with Studio LC over the last ten years, not to mention the Let’s Make a Demo music program at NDSS earlier in his career, Mr. Bowers brought passion, creativity, and dedication to every subject and every student. His influence and enthusiasm have enriched our school and inspired countless learners.
We wish him a joyful, fulfilling retirement and a wonderful new chapter ahead.
We are sad to share that Vice-Principal Mr. Suche James will be leaving LCVI/Calvin Park at the end of the semester. While we will miss his steady presence in our school community, we are also excited for him as he steps into his new role as Principal of LaSalle Intermediate and Secondary School for second semester.
Over the past four and a half years, Mr. James has been a dedicated and approachable school leader. His commitment to supporting students, staff, and families has made a lasting impact on our school. We are deeply grateful for his leadership, kindness, and the positive relationships he built throughout his time with us. Please join us in congratulating Mr. James and wishing him continued success in his new role.
Best wishes to Ms. Tina Demerling who is transferring to Frontenac Secondary School starting semester 2. Thank you to Ms. Demerling for her many contributions to our LCVI school community over the last three years.

Traffic Reminders for Drop-Off/Pick-Up
The front of our school is very busy in the morning and at dismissal. Please take care when entering and exiting the front laneway. A reminder that the front lane way is for quick drop-off and pick-up. Cars are not permitted to be parked or idling in this area. At the end of the school day, if your student is not ready to be picked-up, you must move along to maintain traffic flow.
Consider picking up your student 5-10 minutes after dismissal to help reduce congestion. Or consider dropping off/picking up your student at pre-arranged meeting spot in the surrounding neighbourhood. Thank you for your help keeping everyone safe.
Help Wanted! Bingo Volunteers Needed
We are in need of a few more volunteers to run bingos. Please contact Paul Goldring (goldringp@limestone.on.ca) if you are interested in helping out or learning more.
We are thankful to Play! Gaming & Entertainment for their generosity and support over the years! Funds raised help us to significantly reduce fees in support of student extra-curriculars at LCVI.
Scents at School Reminder
LCVI/Calvin Park is a scent free school. We have students and staff who experience severe physical reactions when exposed to colognes, perfumes, body sprays, etc. Please do not wear scents at LCVI/Calvin Park! Do not apply them before you come to school, and do not apply them while at school. Thank you for your help with this.
Inclement Weather
Please note that you can sign-up to receive notifications of cancellations to your student's specific bus route at https://triboard.ca/. If your students is going to stay home on an inclement weather day, please remember to report their absence through School Messenger to help us track attendance and ensure student safety.
National Non-Smoking Week January 19-24
The nicotine industry continues to target young people through fun flavours and high-tech devices designed to increase addiction. During National Non-Smoking Week, January 19-24, families can help young people better understand the risks and start important conversations at home. Parents and caregivers can watch this short video to learn more: www.notanexperiment.ca/parents
Student Trustee Applications
Student trustees play a crucial role to give students a voice in the decisions that shape the school district. As a student trustee, you will have the opportunity to represent the student body and advocate for your peers. You will attend board meetings, provide input on important issues, and ensure the student perspective is heard. If you are a senior student passionate about student government and want to advocate for student voice, this position may be for you.
Daily Announcements
Students hear information about extra-curriculars and events on the daily announcements, also posted on the bulletin board outside the main office, on the school website (https://lcvi.limestone.on.ca/daily-schedule-announcements), and on LCVI Instagram.
Research Exploration Opportunity (REO) at Queen's University STEM Fellowship
The REO program allows high school students (grades 9-12) to spend March break in a Queen’s lab, learning from professors and research students about the intricate processes involved in various areas of STEM research. We especially aim to help students from underrepresented backgrounds learn about the field of STEM, helping spark their interest and understanding of research. As part of the REO program, you will be able to shadow professors, graduate and post-graduate students, and learn about the exciting research taking place at Queen’s University. This year, we have labs participating from a variety of disciplines, such as nanophotonics and computing, genomics, astroparticle physics, cancer, biodegradable and biocompatible polymers, among others. Applications are due on January 31 at 11:59 PM. Please use the following link to apply: https://forms.gle/WatSGF9Qf35TYhuG9.
