Medical Plans of Care
Medical plans of care must be reviewed and updated annually. Students with new or existing diagnosis of anaphylaxis, asthma, diabetes, epilepsy, or any other medical condition that may require an emergency response must have a current medical plan of care. If your student requires one, fillable electronic forms are available on the school board website or below. Please submit completed forms to the school office at locvi@limestone.on.ca as soon as possible.
Attendance
Regular attendance is essential for success. We expect students to attend class daily and be on time. When valuable instructional time is missed, the natural consequence is a decreased opportunity for success.
Families can prioritize attendance by:
- Discussing its importance and positivity
- Scheduling appointments outside of school hours (if possible)
- Returning students to school after appointments
- Keeping students home only when ill
- Planning family vacations during school breaks (i.e., December and March Breaks)
Our automated attendance system makes daily calls home to notify caregivers of students who are marked absent without permission.
Students who need to leave early for an appointment must sign-out at the Attendance Office. Students who arrive late to school must sign-in at the Attendance Office before going to class. To notify the school of an absence, parents/caregivers should report the absence through School Messenger or call the attendance office @ 613-546-2050, ext. 341. Please note: Students are not permitted to sign themselves out or call-in absences until they reach the age of 18.
LCVI 5, 10, 15 absence procedure:
Students who attend class regularly are more likely to experience success at school. To help families stay informed, classroom teachers will email home when a student reaches 5, 10, and 15 absences (including both excused and unexcused absences). These notifications are intended to increase awareness of attendance patterns and help ensure that supports are put in place when needed.
Lancer Level-Up Days:
Students are expected to communicate with their teacher if they anticipate being absent on a summative assessment day. Students who are absent for a summative assessment/test will have the opportunity to complete the missed summative on the next "Lancer Level Up Day."
Extended Absence:
Please connect with an administrator if you are planning an extended absence, preferably before making any travel arrangements. A parent/caregiver of the pupil or the pupil (if the pupil is an adult) seeking an extended absence under Subsection 23(3) of Regulation 293 of the Education Act must submit a request to administration stating the reasons for the request and specifying the length of absence. The time frame must be explicitly stated and must be less than 15 days. Students may pick up an "Extended Absence Approval" form in the Attendance Office. The school strongly recommends that families not plan vacations during regularly scheduled school time as extended absences often negatively impact a student’s academic achievement and well being. The student is responsible for catching up on missed learning upon their return, and may not be able to complete some work that is missed, including some assessments, evaluations, practical activities, in-class work, and group projects. As a result, extended absences may affect the student’s final grade in a course. Extended absences that impact the exam period should be avoided in order to avoid putting the credit at risk.
New - Ministry of Education Changes to Assessment & Evaluation Requirements
Starting this fall, the Ministry of Education is implementing changes related to assessment and evaluation. Most courses will require a written final examination as part of the final evaluation. Attendance and participation will now count for 15% of the final mark in grades 9/10, and count for 10% of the final mark in grades 11/12.

Expectations & Reminders
At LCVI, we have high expectations for student behaviour. Key topics, including the following, will be reviewed at grade assemblies this week.
- Culture of Respect & Inclusion: We are committed to creating an equitable, inclusive, and accessible school for everyone. We value our diversity and know it enriches our experiences and our school.
- Vaping/Smoking is not permitted on school property or within 20 metres of school grounds. Vape detectors in washrooms alert administration.
- Washrooms: Students are not permitted to congregate or hang out in washrooms.
- Cell Phones: As per the Ministry of Education's direction, cellphones are NOT to be used during instructional time. Cellphones shall be stored out of view and either powered off or set to silent during instructional time. Parents/Guardians will be contacted if their student is not abiding by this directive.
- Driving/Parking: There is very limited student parking in a designated area in the main parking lot along the side fence. This is available on a first-come basis. If the student parking area is full, students are expected to leave the parking lot and find street parking.
- Scents at school - LCVI/Calvin Park is a scent free school. We have students and staff who experience severe physical reactions when exposed to artificially made scents. The most severe reactions stem from colognes, perfumes, and body sprays. Please not wear scents at LCVI/Calvin Park. Thank you for your help with this!
- Lockers will be assigned by homeroom teachers in the first week of school. Please come to the main office if you would like to purchase a lock ($12 for new, $7.50 for used). Due to our increasing enrollment, students in grades 9 and 10 are required to share a locker again this year. A reminder that lockers are property of the school and if there are safety concerns, lockers will be opened and searched by school administrators.
Extra-Curriculars
We are excited to offer a wide variety of extra-curricular opportunities for our students. We believe that engagement in school community is important for the social development and well-being of students. Participation can allow students to boost their self-confidence, improve their time management, learn new skills, improve their social skills, and improve their outlook towards school in general.
Students hear information about extra-curriculars on daily announcements, which are also posted outside the main office, on the school website (https://lcvi.limestone.on.ca/daily-announcements) and on the LCVI Instagram each day.
With so many different clubs and sports, there is something for everyone!
Textbook Return
We kindly ask that you check in with your student to see if they have any textbooks or novels from past courses at home. Perhaps some texts were spotted at home during the summer break? With the rising costs of texts and educational materials, we greatly appreciate if texts from past courses are returned to Mr. Goldring in the Library as soon as possible. Thank you for your assistance!
Student Laptops
We are pleased to continue offering Lenovo laptops and chargers for educational use at school and at home for Grade 9 students who would like to participate. Students may also choose to use their own device, if preferred. Before a school laptop can be issued, the LDSB Student Laptop Fair Notice paper form must be completed and signed by a caregiver. Students who borrow a school laptop are responsible for taking good care of it, bringing it to school fully charged each day, and for costs related to damage or the replacement of lost charging cords. LCVI Cafeteria
Our amazing student-run Cook's Internship program, led by culinary teachers Mr. Ian Montgomery and Mr. Andrew Kirby, will once again be offering food service at lunch time. We are so fortunate at LCVI to have a variety of fresh and delicious affordable lunch options available daily for purchase. The Cafeteria will be up and running by early next week.
Food Sharing Program
The Food Sharing program will continue this year with snacks available at the Lancer Lair before Period 1 and at lunch time. A generous grant from PC Financial allows us to offer even more options for students, including hot and fresh lunch items prepared by LCVI's Cook's Internship students. These snacks and lunch items are free for all students to enjoy.
Traffic Reminders for Drop-Off/Pick-Up
A reminder that our school day begins at 8:20 am and ends at 2:34 pm. If you are planning to drive your student to or from school, please note that our front entrance is especially busy in the morning and at dismissal. Please take care when entering and exiting the front laneway. A reminder that the front lane way is for quick drop-off and pick-up. Cars are not permitted to be parked or idling in this area. At the end of the school day, if your student is not ready to be picked-up, you must move along to maintain traffic flow. Consider picking up your student 10-15 minutes after dismissal to help reduce congestion. Or consider dropping off/picking up your student at pre-arranged meeting spot in the surrounding neighbourhood. Thank you for your help keeping everyone safe.
Welcome Class of 2030
It was our pleasure to meet and welcome our newest Lancers at Head Start Grade 9 Orientation program last week. What a super group of Grade 9s! Our awesome student leaders brought the green and gold Lancer spirit and helped make the day a great success.

School Advisory Council
School Advisory Councils increase parental involvement in schools and promote greater understanding of the education process. Monday, September 28 is the Calvin Park/LCVI School Advisory Council elections and first meeting. We will meet in the Library starting at 6:00 pm.
All are welcome! We hope to see you there. A virtual meeting link will be shared closer to the meeting date for those who can't make it in person.

Mental Health Supports & Resources
Student Accident Insurance
School Board Policy states that participation on school sports teams (both elementary and secondary) is conditional on obtaining at least the basic student accident insurance coverage for the student or proof of external private coverage through your family plan. The cost of basic coverage is approximately $17.00 per year. This covers the student while attending school during the school day. The time spent by students participating on school-sponsored teams is considered part of the school day, even if the games and/or practices are held outside of the regular school hours. It is recommended that all parents consider this program. Visit www.insuremykids.com to get this inexpensive and highly recommended insurance.
